M6 Toll prices set to go up again, says owner MEL

Prices on the M6 Toll road are set to increase from March.

Operator Midland Expressway Limited (MEL) said car drivers would have to pay 拢5.50 - a 20p rise, and lorries would be charged 拢11 - a 40p increase.

Some weekend and overnight prices were being reduced, MEL added.

Brian Mooney from the Association of British Drivers said the M6 was operating at twice the capacity, while the toll road was operating at half the capacity .

Mr Mooney said: "It's a totally mad situation, again.

"You've got the main M6 operating at twice the capacity, the M6 T - the toll road - is working at half the capacity.

"The operator is losing money and the drivers have to pay.

"Again who wins in the situation?"

The toll road, which opened in 2003, covers 27 miles (43.5km) from Junction 11a on the M6 near Cannock, Staffordshire, rejoining the M6 at Junction 3a at Coleshill, Warwickshire.
