Farmers and landowners in Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire are being urged to help prevent illegal raves being organised on their land.

Thames Valley Police said the Bank Holiday and warmer weather may tempt organisers to stage unlicensed music events.

The force said nine illegal raves were shut down in the South East last year.

Landowners are being advised to check farm gates, access points, and outbuildings which could become venues.

Robin Edwards, the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) regional director, said: "Raves cause a great deal of disruption to local communities and often result in damage being caused to property and land."

He added landowners could fall victim to "considerable clean-up costs".

Acting Supt Jim O'Ryan said anyone considering holding or attending this type of event "should reconsider their intentions carefully".
