Thames Valley Police fire PC over sex assaults at Ascot

  • Published

A police officer has been fired after he admitted sexually assaulting three women at Ascot Racecourse.

Thames Valley Police said PC Joseph Gritt was off duty at the time of the breaches of standards, which included making racist and homophobic comments.

A statement said he was dismissed without notice after admitting six counts of breaching standards last April, at a hearing on Monday.

Mr Gritt was also found to have carried out a further attack on one victim.

The force added the Crown Prosecution Service reviewed the case but decided there was insufficient evidence for a successful conviction against Mr Gritt.

Deputy Chief Constable John Campbell said: "PC Gritt has shown complete disregard for the standards expected of him and there is no place in the force for those who behave in this way.

"Despite what must have been traumatic experiences for the victims, I would like to commend them for challenging the behaviour and for supporting the case."
