Bedford controlled explosion after suspicious device found
A controlled explosion took place after a suspicious device was found near a river that runs through a town centre.
On Sunday Bedfordshire Police said roads were closed near The Embankment in Bedford, which runs alongside the River Great Ouse, at around 17:50 GMT.
A specialist team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit moved the device to a safe location where a controlled explosion was carried out.
At 22:50 GMT police said roads had reopened.
