A Berkshire charity which rehomes cats and dogs says black cats have fallen out of favour with people looking for a new pet.

According to the Old Windsor branch of the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, ginger and tabby cats are proving more popular with pet lovers.

Manager Tracey Curren, said there may be "an element of superstition about black cats".

The cats and dogs' home in Berkshire took in 600 cats last year.

"We would urge people to look at cats' personalities, rather than looks," said Ms Curren.
