Protest over Birmingham Connexions closure

  • Published

Council workers affected by the threat of job cuts at Birmingham City Council have held a protest.

Up to 200 people joined in the Unison organised rally in Victoria Square.

More than 200 jobs, mostly with the Connexions service which helps young people and which is facing closure, are at risk.

The council has said the cuts are due to a smaller government grant. But Unison said the service was needed more than ever.

In July, the council said 430 jobs, mostly within departments which work with young people, were at risk.

Up to 200 of these are thought to be within Connexions.
