  • Published

Almost 300 people have been charged in connection with last summer's riots in the West Midlands.

A police report into the disorder revealed more 169 people have now been convicted out of 297 charged.

The force will also receive more than 拢11m in funding - 拢1m less than it had hoped - to cover operational costs during the riots.

Last month it was confirmed more than 2,700 jobs are to be cut within the force by 2015 - 450 more than expected.

It needs to save 拢126m in the next four years.

The figures come from Chief Constable Chris Sims's final report on the disorder to West Midlands Police Authority, to be discussed at a meeting next week.

Officers made 770 arrests in connection with disorder in the West Midlands.
