Armed police seized a load handgun after a fight broke out among teenagers at this branch of Nando's in Birmingham

A teenager who was found with a loaded gun in a branch of Nando's has been sentenced to three years in a young offender institution.

Remi Carty can be named after a Birmingham Crown Court reporting restriction expired when he turned 18.

He was arrested in July when police found a loaded handgun in a bag belonging to the then 17-year-old at the restaurant in Birmingham.

The teenager admitted possessing a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Six bullets were also recovered from the branch on Bishopsgate Street, along with two knives and suspected Class B drugs were found in a search of the group he was with.

A fight broke out in the restaurant and seven teenagers were arrested, but no further action was taken against six of the group.

Carty, of Lockton Road, Stirchley, was given three years for each offence, to run concurrently.

The court ordered the forfeiture and destruction of firearm and ammunition.
