An international festival which celebrates the achievements of women and girls is arriving in Bradford.

Charity Women of the World, or WOW, travels around with the aim of inspiring women and girls and highlighting obstacles that face them.

The touring bus comes to Bradford on Saturday with activities and events across the district over the weekend.

It will then go visit schools between 4 and 6 of March in the run-up to International Women's Day on 8 March.

The WOW Girls Festival bus is an interactive space for young people and was designed and created by young people alongside Leeds-based charity Getaway Girls.

Visitors to the bus "can take part in a creative exploration of gender equity, through play, reading, digital experiences and a recording studio," organisers said.

The WOW Foundation said: "With a focus on girls, but including all young people, activities from the bus are designed to build resilience, wellbeing and good mental health."

Events being held include the bus opening for visitors in City Park on Saturday, as well as family activities at Bradford's City Library.

On Sunday, it will travel to Keighley where it will be parked alongside local arts charity Keighley Creative, with workshops and performances taken place through the day.

Domino Patemen, from the WOW Foundation, said: "In Bradford there will be activities on the bus and around it. It will be like a mini festival.

"There will be stuff for families and older people - everything from DJ workshops to hand massaging and storytelling."

"I hope people will come and have a really good time with each other. I hope they will spend time thinking about themselves and come away knowing that they really matter."

The WOW Girls Festival culminates with an event at Buckingham Palace on 12 March.
