Bradford: Two more schools sign up to School Streets scheme

Two more Bradford schools have signed up to a scheme to reduce air pollution.
The Academy at St James Primary in Allerton and Horton Park Primary in Canterbury are the latest to adopt a School Street, taking the total number of school sign-ups in the city to 10.
The scheme restricts vehicle access near a school during pick-up and drop-off times, Bradford Council said.
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw said they "create a safer, healthier and more pleasant space for everyone's benefit".
Bradford Council's executive member for healthy people and places, Councillor Sarah Ferriby, added: "We want to champion the health, social and environmental benefits of walking to school.
"We know families can be put off walking to school because of cars driving at unsafe speeds and parking on pavements and other places they shouldn't.
"The School Streets scheme removes some of those issues and makes it more attractive for children and their families to decide to walk - or cycle or scoot - to school for at least part of the journey."
The latest School Streets are expected to be implemented by "late spring/early summer," a council spokesperson said.
It comes after the council announced more than £444,000 of funding from its Clean Air Zone charges is to go to schools trying to reduce air pollution in their area.
