A new charity to help ex-servicemen and women deal with post-traumatic stress injury has been set up in Bath.

Save Our Soldier offers support to veterans and their families and to members of the emergency services.

Lee Hayward, head coach, said they were offering "something quite unique" to veterans with post-traumatic stress injury (PTSI).

He said: "We're not helping them with physical injuries we're helping them with essentially the invisible injury."

Launched earlier, Mr Hayward said the charity operated a self referral scheme and already had "one person on it books".

'Memory without emotion'

"It is all about helping soldiers who are suffering specifically with PTSI. Lots of people try to identify it as post traumatic stress disorder, it is not a disorder," he said.

"We hear about the sad loses of soldiers, where they chose to take their own life because they're just not able to cope.

"We aspire to deal with those memories for those soldiers, to take away that emotional charge and get rid of that, so that they can have the memory without the emotion and that enables them to start getting on with life."

The charity plans to expand to treat people from across the country from the forces and the emergency services.
