New 拢15m school opens on the Isles of Scilly
The new 拢15m Five Islands School on St Mary's has opened its doors for the new term.
Youngsters aged from three to 16 will be taught there.
Head teacher Bryce Wilby, said he was looking forward to the challenge of teaching children from kindergarten age through to GCSE in a state-of-the-art building.
Earlier this year Sport England offered a grant of more than 拢1m for the sporting facilities.
Mr Wilby, said: "It's going to transform education here. The facilities the pupils have now got are going to make a big difference.
"We've also got a great drama studio, and a fantastic performance hall with a proper lighting rig and sound."
The school is said to be the newest in the state system offering three-to-16 education under one roof.
He said: "You get that seamless transition all the way through.
"You can really monitor all pupils to make sure they are working the best they can, at all stages in their school career."
