Train delays follow snow in Coventry and Warwickshire
Train services faced disruption while emergency signalling works were carried out in Birmingham.
A limited service was operating between Birmingham, Coventry and Rugby, with some routes diverted until the line re-opened about 16:30 GMT.
In a separate incident passengers on a Virgin London to Coventry train had to change vehicles after a window fell out of a carriage.
It was reportedly hit by an icicle in a tunnel at Leyton Buzzard.
The signalling work had to be carried out at Proof House junction near Moor Street Station in Birmingham.
Bin collections were also effected by the weather, with Coventry City Council suspending all Wednesday collections.
The council said decisions on whether collections would resume would be based on improving temperatures.
Lindsley Harvard, cabinet member for city services at Coventry City Council, said: "We will do our best to get out tomorrow - but if temperatures stay below freezing and conditions don't improve it might again prove to be impossible."
The council said people it missed over the last two days and the people it did not get to on Friday need to take their bin back in and put it out again on the next normal collection day.
Woodfield School's Hawthorn site, in Coventry, was closed on Wednesday because it had no heating.
All other Coventry and Warwickshire schools remained open.
