Moat bus route saved by local funds
A village in Cumbria has had its threatened bus service saved by funds granted to its local councillor.
The 127 Newcastleton to Carlisle route was diverted via Moat twice a week, but due to a cut in government funding this was earmarked to be withdrawn.
It will now continue to run after Councillor Val Tarbitt allocated 拢500 from her Local Member Scheme budget.
This gives local councillors 拢12,500 each year to spend on community projects at their discretion.
Councillor Tarbitt said: "I am thrilled that the use of the Local Member Scheme has allowed me to help continue this service.
"It will no doubt be great news to the local residents who have been concerned about their bus service stopping."
