Badger sett causes Whinlatter Pass road collapse
A road in Cumbria has been closed after heavy rain and badger setts underneath the carriageway caused it to collapse.
A collapse on Whinlatter Pass on the B5292 was discovered on Thursday after heavy rain flooded parts of the county.
An inspection found voids below the road had been created by a badger sett. A 20m (65ft) stretch of the road is now closed and diversions have been put in place.
Cumbria County Council said it was "not clear" how long the repairs would take.
Badger setts are protected by law which the council say will delay repairs.
