Deer fencing project for M6 near Cumbria 'hot spot'
- Published
Deer-proof fencing is to be installed beside a stretch of the M6 in Cumbria to improve driver safety.
Highways England has identified a section between junction 35 at Carnforth and junction 36 at Kirkby Lonsdale as a "deer hot spot".
It is spending 拢200,000 on the fencing, which will also prevent otters from getting onto the road.
The work, from July to September, will result in the closure of the hard shoulder.
There are more than 70,000 deer-related traffic accidents across UK each year, resulting in an average of 20 fatalities and 700 injuries among road users, Highways England said.
