Burton-in-Kendal services shut after cash machine theft attempt
A number of people wearing balaclavas have attempted to steal a cash machine from a motorway service station.
They arrived at Burton-in-Kendal Services off the M6 in Cumbria shortly after 02:00 BST, Cumbria Police said.
They tried to take an internal cash machine and, when they failed, went into the shop and stole a cash register.
No-one was injured and the group then drove away, the force said.
Officers said the services area was "likely to remain closed for some time" but the petrol station and car park had reopened.
Anyone who saw what happened, or has information, is asked to contact police.
