Woman dies and three injured in A66 crash

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, police said
A woman died and three people, including an 11-year-old girl, have been injured in a crash on the A66.
It happened at about 18:45 GMT on Friday between Bridgefoot and Broughton, West Cumbria, involving a Volkswagen Golf and a Suzuki Jimny.
The woman, aged in her 70s, was a passenger in the Suzuki and the 73-year-old man who was driving was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The Volkswagen driver, a 19-year-old man, was arrested, Cumbria Police said.
He was held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and three counts of causing serious injury by driving and was bailed.
An 11-year-old girl, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, with a head injury.
While a 17-year-old girl, who suffered serious injuries ,was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary.
A fourth passenger was not hurt and the force appealed for witnesses.
