Police chase death driver Matthew Hogg jailed for eight years

An unlicensed driver who killed a 75-year-old pedestrian after fleeing from police at high speed has been jailed for eight years.
Barrie Arkesden died in Hilton, Derbyshire, after Matthew Hogg crashed into him and two cars in April.
Hogg, 24, from Melville Court, Etwall, admitted causing death by dangerous driving and was banned from driving for 14 years at Derby Crown Court.
Police said they had to call off the pursuit because it was "too dangerous".

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), which is still investigating the crash, said the chase began when a Vauxhall Astra failed to stop close to the A38 near Hilton.
The pursuit was later abandoned before the car collided with two other vehicles and Mr Arkesden on Hilton's Main Street.

Hogg's car was estimated to be travelling at 60mph (97km/h) went he entered the village.
He fled the scene and was found later hiding in a hedge after a helicopter search.
The on-going IPCC investigation is trying to determine whether the police followed appropriate policies and procedures.
