Torbay Council chief executive suggests post cut

The chief executive of Torbay Council has suggested cutting her own post under major restructuring plans to save the unitary authority money.

The council faces a 28% cut in its government grant over the next four years. It spends about 拢2.3m annually on senior management.

Elizabeth Reikes said a restructuring could include cutting her post or sharing it with another council.

She said restructuring could save up to 拢500,000 a year.

The council is looking at a 拢9m programme of budget cuts for 2011.
