A 29-year-old man is still being questioned by police on suspicion of murdering a man in Bournemouth town centre.

A man was arrested in Beechey Road on Tuesday afternoon. Police said they were not looking for anyone else.

Police found the body of a man, who has not yet been named, after being called to a home in Lansdowne Road following reports of a serious attack.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out later.

A police spokesman said a man ran away from the scene along Holdenhurst Road in the direction of Bournemouth railway station.

Det Insp Stewart Balmer said the town centre would have been "very busy" at the time. He appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Phillip Ellison, of the nearby Downes wine bar and restaurant, said he was shocked at the death.

He said: "It's a really quiet area... and we don't get this sort of thing happening here."
