Essex special PC Reece Clarke left brain damaged after police crash
A special constable from Essex has been left severely brain damaged following a crash in a police car while he was on duty.
Reece Clarke, who had wanted a career with the police, was badly injured in a collision with a taxi in July as he and another officer were responding to an alarm in Basildon.
Figures obtained by 大象传媒 Look East have revealed that in the eastern region there were more than 1,000 crashes involving police vehicles over one year.
Suffolk Police had the highest number of crashes at 315. The force has 445 vehicles in total.
Second highest was Essex where there were 295 crashes in which seven people were seriously injured.
Norfolk has 419 vehicles which have been involved in 230 collisions. While in Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire the numbers were slightly lower.
Figures for Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire were not available.
