A man has appeared in court charged with murder after the death of a woman.
Police said they were called to reports of an assault in West Thurrock, Essex, at 08:30 BST on Friday.
Officers found a 47-year-old woman seriously injured near the A1306 Arterial Road. Paramedics attended but she died a short time later, a police spokesman said.
Basildon magistrates remanded Florin Ion, 31, of Ipswich Crescent, Birmingham, in custody.
He is due to appear before Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday.
