A 26-year-old woman has been jailed for eight years after stabbing a man with a barbeque skewer at a home in Essex.

Cayleigh Reid was at an address in Torkildsen Way, Harlow, when she attacked the victim in the early hours of 26 June 2022.

Reid, of Fairview Road, Slough, Berkshire, was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent (GBH) after a trial.

Essex Police said the incident could have "easily" become a homicide case.

"It is only through the timely work of surgeons that this did not happen," said Det Insp James Holmes.

"The victim continues to live with the long-term consequences of Reid's actions that night."

Detectives said Reid and five other people argued and became aggressive, and she said she intended to stab the victim, a man aged in his 40s.

Moments later she attacked him with the skewer that she had found in a kitchen drawer, police said.

Reid was separately found not guilty of attempted murder and attempted GBH - in relation to the victim's wife - following the trial at Chelmsford Crown Court.

She was sentenced on Monday.
