A 13-year-old girl has been struck by a quad bike and airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
Alex Watt was with friends in a playing field near Aveling Drive in Banks, near Southport, when she was struck on Sunday afternoon.
The girl, whose family said wants to become a dancer, suffered a broken leg and later underwent surgery.
The vehicle was abandoned near the scene and police are appealing for help to track down those responsible.
The teenager suffered a fracture and a break above the knee.
Her mother Emma Hardman, 50, said: "The operation has gone well. She has had two metal plates and six pins fitted.
"The surgeon was really pleased, which is such a relief."
The green Honda Fourtrax quad bike is being examined by forensics officers.
Lancashire Constabulary has urged the owner of the bike or any witnesses to come forward.
Ms Hardman added: "I would like to appeal to anyone who saw what happened or can help to get in touch with the police.
"This should not have happened and it could have been a lot worse.
"Those responsible need to be stopped."
