Burnley: Two hurt after car crashes into tree while evading police
- Published
Two people have been seriously hurt after a car crashed into a tree while evading police.
A VW Golf failed to stop for police on Lyndhurst Road, Burnley, shortly before 02:30 GMT and a pursuit began but officers lost sight of the vehicle.
Minutes later the car lost control on Greenhead Lane and ploughed into a tree, Lancashire Police said.
The driver, a man aged in his 30s, and the passenger, a man in his 20s, were taken to hospital.
The force said the vehicle was not being pursued by police at the time of the incident and it had referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as is standard procedure in such circumstances.
Supt Hassan Khan appealed to anyone who saw the vehicle at any point before the incident or who saw the collision itself to get in touch.
