- Published
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was attacked with a broken bottle in Leeds.
The woman suffered cuts to her head and neck in what police believe was an unprovoked assault near a bus stop on Otley Road at 21:00 GMT on Sunday.
The victim, in her 30s, received medical treatment after the "extremely traumatic incident", police said.
A 32-year-old man was detained by security staff nearby before being taken into custody by police.
Det Insp Richard James said: "From our enquiries so far this appears to be an unprovoked assault by a man who was not known to the victim.
"Security staff have reacted quickly to this incident and detained a male and safeguarded the victim until the arrival of the police.
"I understand the concern that this incident will cause in the wider community, particularly for other women, and I would like to reassure you that we have a man in custody and a thorough investigation is being carried out."
Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
