Pedestrian dies after being hit by van on M1 in Leicestershire

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a van on the M1 motorway in Leicestershire.
The incident, involving a white Volkswagen Touran, happened near Junction 23 at Shepshed at about 21:20 GMT on Friday.
Leicestershire Police said they believe the male pedestrian was initially on a footbridge on Butthole Lane.
He was found on the road where he was struck by the VW and pronounced dead at the scene, the force added.
The M1 was closed for about six hours between Junction 23 for Shepshed and Junction 23A for East Midlands Airport.
Leicestershire Police said it is in the "very early stages" of their enquiries but is keen to speak to anyone who may have seen man standing on the bridge or witnessed any part of the incident.
Motorists are also being asked to check dashcam footage recorded around the time.
