John Tomlin pleaded guilty to two counts of intending to cause grievous bodily harm

A man who seriously injured a woman and her cousin by throwing acid into their car has admitted intentionally causing the pair grievous bodily harm.

Resham Khan and Jameel Muhktar had been out celebrating Ms Khan's 21st birthday on 21 June when they were attacked in Beckton, east London.

John Tomlin, of Colman Road, Canning Town, previously pleaded guilty to two lesser charges of GBH in October.

Tomlin had had "no previous dealings" with the couple, said the judge.

Ms Khan, a Manchester Metropolitan University student, suffered face and neck injuries and was left with damage to her left eye.

Mr Mukhtar, 37, had to be placed in an induced coma and has since said he was left "emotionally wrecked" by the attack.

Judge Sheelagh Canavan said the attack was "somewhat random".

Tomlin was remanded in custody to appear for sentencing at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 26 January.
