Man attacked outside Funky Box lost facial features
A man lost his nose, ears, and lip during an attack outside a Liverpool nightclub.
The 31-year-old, from Wavertree, was attacked outside Funky Box in Fleet Street in the city centre at about 0700 BST on Saturday.
Laurence Richard McGinn, 28, from the L14 area of Liverpool, has been charged with section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
A police officer described the incident as "horrific... almost barbaric."
The victim is still recovering in hospital, a spokesman for Merseyside Police said.
Mr McGinn appeared before magistrates on Monday and was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 28 November.
A second man, aged 27 and from Toxteth, has been arrested and released on police bail.
Funky Box has been closed, after a request from Merseyside Police to Liverpool City Council's licensing committee.
Describing CCTV of the incident, Pc Stuart Moore told the committee: "It is horrific, sickening and it is almost barbaric, what takes place."
A council spokesman said: "The licensing sub-committee has decided to suspend the licence of this premises pending a full review which will take place on 19 September."
