A pedestrian has been critically injured after a two-car crash in Liverpool city centre.
Police said the crash happened after a white Audi TT was seen speeding down The Strand at about 01:10 BST.
The Audi then collided with a private hire car, which hit the 44-year-old man walking near the junction with Brunswick Street.
Merseyside Police are searching for the Audi driver who ran off and have arrested a passenger.
The pedestrian was taken to hospital, while the private hire driver - a man in his 50s - suffered neck injuries.
A 53-year-old woman from Southport was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
Merseyside Police appealed for information and have referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, according to standard procedure as the crash followed police contact.
