Police have appealed for information after a cyclist was killed in a suspected hit-and-run.
The man, in his 50s, was found injured on Islands Brow in St Helens at about 06:30 GMT and later died in hospital, Merseyside Police said.
The force said efforts were under way to find a vehicle, which they believe was involved, and its driver.
Det Insp Richard Shillito said any information witnesses could provide was "vitally important".
A section of Islands Brow, near the junction with Hinckley Road, has been closed off to traffic while forensic investigators examine the scene.
Det Insp Shillito said an extensive search of the area was under way to find the vehicle involved.
He has appealed to any witnesses or local residents with CCTV footage of a vehicle in the area between 06:00 and 06:30 to contact police, as well as any drivers who may have dashcam footage of the incident.
