A man has been arrested after reports of people being threatened with a crowbar in a bar in Birkenhead.

Officers were called to a report of a man using a crowbar to threaten staff and customers in Conway Street at about 02:10 GMT on Saturday before leaving.

When police arrived at a house in Alexandra Road, the force said a man allegedly made more threats with what they believed was a gun.

Armed police officers were then sent to the scene, Merseyside Police said.

No-one was hurt and a 22-year-old man was arrested.

He was detained on suspicion of possession of a suspected firearm, criminal damage and affray.

Initially the area was closed off and people were urged to stay indoors but police said Alexandra Road and Grange Mount have reopened.
