South Northants Council backs Brackley hospital replacement plan
Plans to replace a 19th Century hospital site with a supermarket and hotel have been approved.
The NHS wants to close Brackley Cottage Hospital and move its 12 beds to a new nursing home on land opposite the sawmill on Northampton Road.
Those proposals were approved by South Northamptonshire Council.
The development will also include a NHS "primary care centre", Sainsbury's store and a hotel.
The new privately-run nursing 60-bed care home will include an "intermediate care bed facility", which NHS managers say will replace services currently provided at the hospital.
Under the plans, the Brackley Health Centre and Washington House Surgery will be moved to a new primary care centre to be built on the site.
