Police are investigating reports that a boy was chased by a group armed with a machete.
Armed officers were deployed after witnesses reported an incident in the Hall Park Avenue area of Rushden, Northamptonshire, shortly before 11:00 GMT on Tuesday, police said.
A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said neither victim nor offenders had been traced.
She said officers wanted to hear from anyone with information.
