An accident and emergency department was closed due to a chemical incident, said hospital bosses.

Emergency services were called to Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop, Nottinghamshire at 05:10 BST.

A man was treated for injuries caused by an unknown substance, police said.

Nottinghamshire Police said investigations were ongoing at the hospital and at an address on Albert Road in Retford where the man was injured.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from across the county and neighbouring Leicestershire were sent to the hospital.

The response had since been scaled down.

Hospital staff said the department had now reopened.
