Grant to prevent river flooding in Somerset

  • Published

A grant of £24,000 has been made to a flood management group to deal with river water levels in Somerset.

The Internal Drainage Board in Somerset (IDB) will use the Defra grant to buy hydraulic equipment to aid the flow of the River Parrett and the River Brue.

Peter Maltby, from the IDB, said: "We're trying to maintain a level of water which encourages wildlife and enables farmers to farm the land."

If successful, the equipment will be used in other parts of the country.
