Goldthorpe underpass arson caused structural damage to bypass

The underpass was badly damaged by the car fire
A section of bypass closed for four months after an arson attack weakened the road has reopened.
Part of the A635 Goldthorpe Bypass was shut after a car was torched on 1 July in the Lockwood Lane underpass causing structural damage.
Barnsley Council has now reopened the stretch with temporary traffic lights.
A spokesperson for the council said: "Additional closures will be required in the coming months when demolition and rebuilding work takes place".
The council's contractor cut the underpass roof slab in two to separate the damaged section, allowing traffic to run on one lane of the road, said the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Repairs to the surface and structure will need to continue said the local authority
The spokesperson added: "Despite our ongoing efforts to reopen the bypass and repair the subway roof as quickly as possible, we have continued to see significant vandalism in the area.
"We'd like to remind everyone that vandalism is not tolerated in our borough, and this vandalism is only delaying our work even further."
