A 10-week-old German Shepherd puppy has been freed after its head became trapped in a metal railing.

The dog, named Wednesday, ran into trouble in Wombwell, Barnsley, coincidentally, on Wednesday.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (SWFR) said the "stricken pooch" was taken to a vet to be sedated before firefighters from Dearne Fire Station used cutting equipment to remove the railing.

An SYFR spokesperson praised everyone involved in the rescue.
