Lowestoft rape suspect 'has left the country'
A suspect wanted in connection with a rape left the country before coming to the attention of police.
A woman in her 30s was attacked between 04:15 and 05:15 GMT on 9 December after a man, whom she believed to be genuine, offered her a lift in his car.
She managed to get out of the vehicle, which had stopped on Kimberley Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk, after the attack.
A suspect has since been identified by Suffolk Police, but he left the UK three days after the rape.
Det Supt Eamonn Bridger said: "Unfortunately this individual left the country before he became a person of interest to us.
"But we are now working to bring him back to the United Kingdom as we are determined to achieve justice for the victim."
The victim was walking along Oulton Road when she was offered the lift by a man in a small light or silver car, who said he had just given a lift to two others.
Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attack and plan to begin an extradition process once the suspect is arrested.
