Crews are continuing to tackle a number of grass and heathland fires in rural parts of Surrey.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said crews were still extinguishing fires at Tarmac Hill in Camberley and Elstead Common, which started on Monday.

About 20 hectares of undergrowth have been damaged by the flames at Elstead Common.

A fire service spokeswoman said the cause of the fires, which began on Monday afternoon, was not yet known.

Blazes at Lightwater Country Park and Ash Ranges, near Pirbright, which also began on Monday, have been extinguished. Crews will re-inspect the areas later.

The fire at Lightwater Country Park spread across three hectares of undergrowth and to the M3 central reservation at about 1350 BST.

The park next to the M3 motorway and the southbound carriageway were temporarily shut while firefighters dealt with the flames.

Crews from Berkshire, Hampshire and West Sussex were drafted in to deal with the series of blazes in the west of the county.

No-one was hurt and no property was damaged in the incidents.
