Health service for prisoners with learning disabilities
- Published
Prisoners with learning disabilities in Surrey's prisons are to be supported by a dedicated healthcare service.
The inmates will be given extra support by staff familiar with some of the specific challenges they face.
The service will operate in HMPs Send and Coldingley, in Woking, and HMPs Downview and Highdown, in Banstead.
The service is being run by Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which provides mental health and learning disability services.
The trust said it was one of the first county-wide services of its kind in England and Wales.
