A mother accused of murdering her newborn baby has appeared in court.

Shauna Donnelly, 24, was charged with murdering her son Ellis Donnelly after taking him to a hospital last October where he was pronounced dead.

She appeared before Teesside Magistrates' Court and then in crown court before Judge Paul Watson QC via videolink.

Ms Donnelly, from Teesside, was granted bail after Robert Mochrie, defending, said she was vulnerable.

He told the court it was an exceptional and "sensitive" case, adding that she had no previous convictions.

Judge Watson granted her bail with conditions and the case would next be heard at Teesside Crown Court on 29 June, with a trial date yet to be set.
