Cleveland detective jailed for rapist advice banned from police
A detective who was jailed for advising a rapist on what to say to police has been banned from future service.
Former Det Con Lee Busby, of Cleveland Police, was jailed for 18 months in January after telling a family member how to avoid being arrested for rape.
In the same trial, Daniel Summers was found guilty of raping a woman and jailed for 10 years.
A gross misconduct hearing has found Busby would have been immediately sacked if he was still serving.
Cleveland Police held a gross misconduct hearing on 30 January, where Busby faced three allegations of breaching the standards of professional behaviour .
The hearing determined Busby "would have been dismissed from the force with immediate effect, should he not already be serving a prison sentence".
He will never be able to join the police service again.
Det Insp Victoria Docherty, from the force's department of standards and ethics, said: "We would like to thank the victim in this case for their bravery in coming forward to report the incident to us and throughout the subsequent judicial process."
