Seaton Sluice woman, 78, critical after suspected hit-and-run

A 78-year-old woman is in a critical condition after a suspected hit-and-run.
The woman was crossing Links Road in Seaton Sluice, Northumberland, on Friday when she was struck by what police believe was a Mercedes vehicle.
Officers were called shortly before 17:00 GMT but the vehicle had left the area.
Northumbria Police has urged anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.
It happened close to the Astley Arms pub.
Sgt Craig Bartle said: "This is a serious incident which has hospitalised an elderly woman.
"We know the area was very busy around the time of the collision with rush-hour traffic and a number of passing motorists and pedestrians in the vicinity."
