A1M: Woman killed walking along North Yorkshire motorway - police
A woman killed by a vehicle on the A1 in North Yorkshire had been walking along the motorway, police have said.
She was a passenger in a car that had parked on the hard shoulder near Leeming and was struck after going on to the carriageway.
The incident happened on the southbound slip road at 23:15 GMT on Wednesday.
The woman, in her 30s and from Leyburn, died at the scene despite the efforts of members of the public who stopped to provide first aid.
Both carriageways were shut between junction 50 and junction 52 overnight and reopened at 08:00 GMT on Thursday.
North Yorkshire Police appealed for witnesses and any dashcam footage of the incident.
