Call for Derry 'family justice' centre

  • Published

A charity which supports victims of domestic violence has called for a family justice centre to be built in Londonderry.

The centre would allow victims access to the police, support services and other agencies under one roof.

Foyle Women's Aid has earmarked a site and drawn up plans, but said funding is needed.

Marie Brown from the charity said a centre would be a major asset in the fight against domestic abuse.

"We want a centre where agencies are organised around support for the victims rather than the victims running around the agencies looking for support.

"We have young women locally who are being raped, being brutalised, and suffering from domestic violence.

"One of our biggest problems is that women drop out of the system because there isn't enough support, and that's why we need a family justice centre here.
