Three men have died in what is believed to be a double murder and a suicide at a farm house in County Cork.

The bodies of a father, aged 59, and two sons, in their 20s, were discovered outside Kanturk on Monday afternoon.

The body of one of the sons was found in a bedroom, and the bodies of his brother and father were found on adjoining land after 13:00 local time.

They have been named as Diarmuid O'Sullivan, 22, Mark O'Sullivan, 25, and Tadgh O'Sullivan, 59.

All three men had gunshot wounds.

Post-mortem examinations for two of the men have taken place at Cork University Hospital, where a third examination is expected on Wednesday.

The incident began after a woman, aged in her 60s, alerted neighbours that a firearm had been discharged at her home.

She is believed to be the mother and wife of the victims.

After 13:00, members of the emergency response unit approached the house, and the body of a man in his 20s with gunshot wounds was discovered.

No-one else was present in the house.

The Garda Air Support Unit helicopter began an aerial search, and the bodies of the other men were discovered with suspected gunshot wounds.
