Londonderry: Man charged over dog being partially buried alive

A 29-year-old man has been has been charged in relation to a report of animal cruelty after a dog was found injured in Londonderry.

Luna the American bulldog was put down by a vet after she was discovered partially buried in Ballyarnett Country Park by a member of the public.

It is believed she suffered suspected brain damage, broken ribs and suspected collapsed lungs.

The man was arrested after a house search in the Carnhill area.

Three dogs were removed from his property and placed into care for their wellbeing, police said.

The man has been charged with offences including causing unnecessary suffering to animals and four counts of failing to take reasonable steps to ensure the needs of an animal.听

He is scheduled to appear before Dungannon Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

Inquiries are continuing and police thanked the local community for their assistance in the investigation.
