A Hollywood movie starring Brad Pitt is to film key sequences in Glasgow.

Glasgow City Council said that this film shoot, which is taking place in August, will be the biggest-ever in the city.

Glasgow Film Office has been contacting businesses and residents to minimise disruption in parts of the city centre being used in the production.

The council said that work on the film is likely to be worth well over £2m to the city's economy.

Almost 1,200 people will be involved.

Michael Harm, location manager for World War Z, said: "The production spent many months looking for the perfect city centre location to play an important part in the film.

"Glasgow's architecture, wide roads and grid layout proved the ideal setting for director Marc Forster.

"The production is delighted with the support they are receiving and looking forward to filming in the city later this summer."

World War Z has been described by its backers as a post-apocalyptic horror movie.

Cllr Gordon Matheson, the leader of Glasgow City Council, said: "I am delighted to see this massive production coming to Glasgow.

"The film and broadcast industry has contributed over £150m to the city's economy over the past decade.

"The news that such a major film is locating in Glasgow will hopefully attract productions of a similar size to the city."
